Automotive journalist Fred Fox once said that "anticipation and hope had always been the hallmark of the Studebaker organization." And this philosophy was best expressed in the top-of-the-line Studebaker Golden Hawk, one of the great classics of the '50s. The 1958 Golden Hawk in particular was famed for its legendary handling and performance. That year, the Packard V-8 was replaced by a McCulloch supercharger that literally made the Hawk fly - generating 275 bhp and providing exhilarating acceleration despite the 3,470 pound mass. Already a dashing design, the '58 Golden Hawk was enhanced with larger concave steel fins and the 400 model came with leather-trimmed interior, upholstered trunk and special trim details.
